My process III: Typing

I can be extremely impatient as a Composer wanting to be finished on a project today. Waiting is something I incorporated in to my process over a decade ago. Realizing I wouldn't be honest with myself about something I'm spending too much time with. Having affair with one of my pieces vs being a loving parents to all of them. The outcome is music I really believe in. I was excited and inspired making a sketch and composing. Now, typing I put on a new set of goggles, similar to how a preformer would see the peice.

So I've made a sketch and composed most of the music. I transcribed it on to paper. Some pieces don't have a sketch but this step is constant. After I put a the date completed, my best ability at the time. Iā€™m not allowed to look at the piece for at least a week. Longer most times is better meanwhile, I'll get started on other sketches or started composing based of a sketch.

Typing in the music is for the most part data entry work. Inputting music quickly is better, I am not editing. Once I'm at the computer I take a step back from my creative urges. Some of my hand written score have short hand notes. I prefer keeping abandoned ideas legible enough to use in my written score. It might be useful. The time away from the peice helps create a less personal means of proceeding.

I focus on details that are on the page, make a mental note if there is something missing. I keep going working. Once all of the dynamics notes tempos and expressions I worte in m score are in. I wait until tomorrow to edit, the music is fresh in my head again.
